AMD has just presented the Radeon RX 6800 XT, its new graphics card and main competitor of the GeForce RTX 3080. Available from November 18, 2020 from $649, this GPU displays exceptional performance, thanks to its 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
Something promised, AMD gave a new conference this Wednesday, October 28, 2020. After presenting up and down the AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 5000, the “best processors for gaming in the world” on October 8, AMD today lifted the veil on its new graphics cards: the Radeon RX 6000.
CEO Lisa Su got the ball rolling with the Radeon RX 6800, designed as the main competitor of the GeForce RTX 3080. Offered for $649 as of November 18, 2020, AMD’s card promises performance that is equal to if not better than Nvidia’s latest for $50 less. It arrives with an impressive technical sheet: 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, a base frequency of 2015 MHz and 2250 MHz in boost frequency, all accompanied by 72 computing units and 128 MB of Infinity Cache.

To prove the capabilities of its GPU, AMD took the opportunity to reveal some comparisons. Thus, in 4K and with the settings pushed to the maximum, the Radeon RX 6800 XT exceeds the GeForce RTX 3080 on many current titles, such as Borderlands 3, Battlefield V, Call of Duty Modern Warfare or even Forza Horizon 4. Thus, Battlefield V displays 113 fps in 4K , while Doom Eternal exceeds 138 FPS. The conclusions are the same for the benchmark in 1140p. The Radeon RX 6800 XT offers better fluidity on almost all of the titles tested, with quite significant differences on BattleField V (198 FPS against less than 160 FPS at Nvidia.
In addition, AMD has managed to beat its competitor on power consumption. Thus, the Radeon 6800 XT displays a TDP of 300W, against 320 for the RTX 3080. As promised, AMD’s new card marks the arrival of new technologies eagerly awaited by fans of the red team.
Thus, the Radeon RX 6800 XT integrates Ray-Tracing compatibility , as well as Variable Rate Shading (VRS). As a reminder, this technology allows game developers to ensure that their title manages automatically and in real time the quality of shadows according to their location on the screen. Finally, the Radeon Boost is also making its debut. This technology drastically reduces the latency time between devices and screen actions.
Among the other strengths of this Radeon RX 6800 XT, there is obviously the Infinity cache , a cache solution similar to that found on the brand’s latest Ryzen processors. To this must be added full compatibility with DirectX 12 Ultimate , thus offering the possibility of taking advantage of numerous graphical improvements such as Ray-Tracing, mesh shading and VRS.
