Galaxy Z Fold 3: Samsung would hide the selfie sensor under the foldable screen, it confirms

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 would be the first Samsung smartphone to be equipped with a selfie sensor under the screen. According to information reported by a South Korean media outlet, the Seoul-based giant has managed to develop a technology to house the front camera under the foldable screen without ruining the quality of the photos. Samsung could thus ignore the hole in the screen.

For several years, Samsung has been working on a technology to hide the front camera under the touch screen and to give up punch and notch. According to rumors, the South Korean firm has almost integrated the technology developed in its laboratories with the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Disappointed by the results, Samsung would have preferred to bet on a foldable screen holed.

Then the manufacturer reportedly tried to add the selfie camera under the screen of the Galaxy S21 (S30). Again, this attempt would not have been successful. The technology would not wait for Samsung’s level of photography requirements. According to the latest leaks, the new Galaxy S still have to settle for a punched screen.

Samsung reportedly developed new selfie sensor technology under the screen

Despite these many unsuccessful attempts, Samsung is not giving up on the idea. According to information gathered by ETNews, a well-known media outlet in South Korea, the firm has finally managed to develop a sensor technology under the screen convincing. Interviewed by the media, an industry official close to the dossier said: “We hear that Samsung Electronics is designing a screen with a wider pixel spacing in the area where the sensor will be placed to ensure a better aperture and avoid any shooting problems.”

In practical terms, Samsung will rely on spaced pixels to allow more light to pass through and, ultimately, to make better photos. To improve rendering, the firm has reportedly developed an ultra-sophisticated image correction algorithm. Moreover, the process used to develop the slab is similar to the process of making the S20 and Note 20 screen. The firm drills a tiny hole in the AMOLED slab with a laser to slide the front-facing camera into it. Finally, Samsung closes the cavity with a transparent screen capable of hiding the presence of the photo sensor.

This new feature would be entered on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the brand’s next foldable screen smartphone. Latest news, Samsung would introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 3 sometime in the summer of 2021. With its S-Pen stylus, the foldable smartphone would replace the Galaxy Note lineup.
