Harmony OS: Huawei unveils its OS rollout schedule

Huawei has just published a first schedule for the rollout of HarmonyOS on its various smartphones. Unsurprisingly, the future Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro will be the first to migrate to HarmonyOS 2.0.

HarmonyOS is intended to replace Android on Huawei devices. The home OS should logically compensate for the absence of the Google operating system and the various proprietary applications of the Mountain View firm, such as Google Maps, Drive, YouTube and others.

Ultimately, the Chinese manufacturer wants to create an ecosystem centered around HarmonyOS. This is why several products from the Shenzhen firm such as its connected TVs , its connected watches, or even a few cars already work under the home OS. The migration of the company’s various smartphones to HarmonyOS 2.0 is therefore the next step in this strategy . The first smartphone beta would be also arrived in January 2021 .

Huawei Mate 40 and 40 Pro will be the first to receive harmony os

However, Huawei published on the social network Weibo this Monday, 6th October, a first phase concerning the rollout of its new OS. Unsurprisingly, the manufacturer’s most recent smartphones will go first under HarmonyOS 2.0 . Clearly, it will be the future Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro, the launch of which is expected in China for mid-October.

After Mate 40 and 40 Pro, then it will be devices equipped with a Kirin 990 5G, such as Huawei P40 , P40 Pro and Mate 30 Pro, will get HarmonyOS 2.0.

Rollout to Many huawei smartphones Will be done in five phases

Smartphones with a Kirin 990 4G, 985 and 820 will follow. Among them are, for example, the Honor View 30 and V30, Huawei Nova 6 or even Huawei Nova 7 SE and Honor 30S . The fourth batch will be dedicated to phones running Kirin 980 as well as any missing Kirin 990 4G and 820 devices.

Here we find several old high-end and mid-range devices from the manufacturer and its subsidiary Honor, such as Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, Mate 20 and Mate 20X, Honor 20 and 20 Pro, Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone or again Huawei Nova 5T and Nova 5 Pro.

The last wave of rollout will be devoted to mid-range equipped with Kirin 810 and 710 such as Huawei P40 Lite, Honor 9X Pro and 9X, Huawei Nova 5, Huawei P Smart 2020 or even the Honor 10 Lite. For the moment, the manufacturer has not given a date concerning these different successive waves of migration . However, we guess that there will be rollout phase throughout the 2021.
