iPhone 12: Apple could launch a cheaper 4G model in 2021

The iPhone 12 could be available in a cheaper 4G version in early 2021, analysts at Wedbush Securities say.

As with every new school year, Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 12 during the September keynote , despite the coronavirus. Indeed, noises from the corridors advanced a postponement of the presentation due to the global pandemic. It will not be in the end. However, the release date of the iPhone 12 will be effectively delayed to mid-October .

As we have already known for a few months, the iPhone 12 will mark Apple’s entry into the era of 5G . All iPhone 12s will be compatible with the new standard. If one thought the 4G definitively relegated to the closet on the iPhones, it would seem that Apple still has a few 4G smartphones in its boxes.

An iPhone 12 4G around $ 800

According to Wedbush Securities analysts Daniel Ives, Strecker Backe and Ahmad Khalil, Apple will launch a cheaper 4G model of the iPhone 12 in the first quarter of 2020 . Previously, these same analysts had predicted that the Apple brand would market a mix of iPhone 12 compatible 5G and 4G at the end of 2020.

However, the firm has revised its predictions after its latest analyzes of the manufacturer’s supply chains in Asia. According to Daniel Ives, this “4G only” variant could be launched in February 2020 with a price set at around $800 . In addition, he claims that the Cupertino company will not increase iPhone prices this year, even for 5G models.

Wider price ranges

The apple brand will offer 5G versions for less than $1,000, while the more expensive variants like the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max would be displayed at prices similar to those of the iPhone 11 Pro. and 11 Pro Ma x, that is to say between €1159 and €1259.

“Prices will be aggressive, because Apple is targeting a larger clientele, especially in times of recession, in the context of the Covid-19 health pandemic, they must ensure that they affect all price categories” , assures Daniel Yves. It is true that Apple has already made a change in strategy with the launch of the iPhone SE 2020 in May 2020.

Sold from €489, the iPhone SE 2020 quickly sold like hot cakes . According to a Cowen study, Apple should reach in the second quarter of 2020 the 8 million iPhone SE 2020 sold. Also according to the publication, the manufacturer should have sold 25 million iPhone SE 2020 by the end of 2020.
