Nvidia releases its old RTX 2060 and GTX 1050 Ti to cope with the shortage of the latest RTX 3000

To cope with the shortage of the latest RTX 3000, Nvidia is preparing to release previous graphics cards, such as the RTX 2060 and the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. The manufacturer believes that these GPUs can still satisfy some of the players.

As you probably know, Nvidia’s latest GeForce RTX 3070, 3080 and 3090 are facing an unprecedented shortage. According to the manufacturer, there will be no inventory until the second quarter of 2021. The difficulties of the global health crisis, the scalpers that grab thousands of graphics cards, and the growing popularity of RTX 3000 to mine cryptocurrencies make life difficult in Nvidia.

Faced with this unprecedented situation, Nvidia has just confirmed to its shareholders that the company will reissue old GPUs in order to” meet the market demand which remains very high”. For example, the manufacturer wants to put the RTX 2060 and GeForce GTX 1050 Ti back on the market, two products that are far from being” technically at the end of their life” according to Nvidia.

According to the company, the GTX 1050 Ti will offer users a cheap option to play in 1080p with graphics settings set on Medium or Low, while the RTX 2060 will allow users to play comfortably in Full HD , all in high, on a large majority of titles. Despite their age (the GTX 1050 Ti was launched in 2016, 2019 for the RTX 2060), these GPUs remain particularly popular and feature prominently in Steam’s statistics. The GTX 1050 Ti remains the second most used card, while the RTX 2060 is in fifth place.

Only and at the moment, the prices of the GTX 1050 Ti and the RTX 2060 are cold in the back. On the specialized site Newegg, it is impossible to find an RTX 2060 below the 700 ,and some third-party dealers do not hesitate to exceed 1500. As for the GTX 1050 Ti, the observation remains the same: very few stocks and prices between 250 and 800 euros. Hard to swallow when you know that the graphics card was offered at 155 euros when it was launched in 2016. Let us hope that the return to the market of these GPUs leads to a significant drop in prices.
